GRAND
RAPIDS — Plans are moving forward with the Mid Towne
Village project. The six-acre mixed use development received
Grand Rapids City Commission approval in April and late last
month S.J. Wisinski & Company assisted developer Mid
Towne Village LLC in completing the acquisition of the 42
properties needed for the project to proceed.
The Mid Towne Village development is bounded by Michigan Street, I-196,
Paris Avenue and Union Street. Demolition is slated for July and construction
could start as soon as August.
"We are pleased to move on to the next stage of our project,” said
Dave Levitt of Mid Towne Village LLC. “This milestone represents the successful
completion of a great deal of effort expended by our team at S.J. Wisinski & Company,
Cornerstone Architects Inc. and National City. ”
S.J. Wisinski Vice President Brad Rosely applauded the team effort.
"As one of the first projects approved under the new Planned Use Redevelopment
(PRD) ordinance, this team has worked hard to set a standard that will make the
city proud,” said Rosely.
Mid Towne Village has its development team in place, with Pioneer
Construction handling the duties of general contractor. “We have our bank, our
architect, and now Pioneer as general contractor,” Levitt said. “We
are ready to move on to the next step.”
The proposed development is designed to have a campus-like setting
with five buildings surrounding a 15,000-square-foot open space
dubbed the
Village Green. Two of the five buildings have been designated for medical
use — a three-story 60,000-square-foot structure and a four-story
48,000-square-foot building. Two more three-story buildings will bring
54,000 square feet of mixed-use office and retail.
A fifth building on the east side of the property has been designated
as a three-story residential brownstone that will feature one- and two-bedroom
apartments. Plans for the Village Green envision trees, benches, a reflecting
pond and a fountain. Mid Towne Village is well-positioned to cater to
the needs of Michigan Street’s Medical Mile and S.J. Wisinski’s
Rosely speculates that the new development could easily play a role as
part of the proposed Michigan State Medical School campus.
"The Mid Towne location is ideal. We are a half-mile from Spectrum, one
mile from St. Mary’s, two blocks from the GVSU Cook-DeVos building and
we have access to I-196 via College Avenue. With over 6 acres of available space
and a campus-like setting already approved, the MSU Medical School would be a
great addition to an already exciting project,” Rosely said.
